About Your Disconnect Notice

If you receive a disconnect notice and you believe that you received it in error because; a) you have paid your balance or b) you should not be disconnected due to a medical condition; please contact AP&L immediately via the "contact us" form on the website. A friendly customer service representative will be sure to rectify the issue and be back in touch with you quickly. If you do not hear back within 24 hours please call the customer service department at 1-888-850-0098.

Your disconnect notice allows you 14 days to pay your past due balance, otherwise the power can be disconnected on or after that date.

How to pay your disconnect amount:

  • Credit card
    • Phone - please call 1-888-850-0098 a friendly customer service representative can take your payment.
    • Internet - create an account at www.electricapl.com.
  • By Mail
    • Please mail a money order payable to American Power & Light
    • Mail payment to PO BOX 182937 Columbus, OH 43218
    • Remember to include:
      - Account Number
      - Service Address
    • Before you mail your payment - please fax a copy of the money order to AP&L
    • This protects you from being disconnected if the mail does not reach AP&L by the due date.
    • Remember to include your Account number and service address.
    • Make sure the fax clearly shows the money as being payable to American Power & Light and that the amount is correct and clearly visible.

What if I can't pay my disconnect amount?

  • AP&L suggests that you pay as much as you can as soon as you can to avoid disconnection. However if the payment is not made in full you can be disconnected.
  • There are a number of local, state, and federally funded aid societies that may assist you in paying for your electric. Please see the Assistance Programs Page for a list of help agencies.

What happens if my service is disconnected?

  • If your service is disconnected for non-payment of electric, you will receive a notice on your door detailing what is owed to have the power restored. You will be required to pay your entire balance (this may be a greater amount than what the original disconnect amount was .) You will also be required to pay a $53.00 reconnection fee. If a technician is dispatched but your services are not yet disconnected your will be required to pay your full account balance and a trip collection charge of $16.00
  • Please call AP&L at 1-888-850-0098 to make your payment. If you pay online, please email AP&L to let us know that your balance has been paid, this will facilitate your power reconnection.
